Discover Tobago

Tobago is one of the most historically unique islands in the Caribbean. During the 1600s and 1700s, it was one of the most fought-over territories in the region, changing colonial ownership more than 30 times between European powers such as the British, French, Dutch, and Spanish. The island is also home to the Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve, established in 1776 and recognized as the oldest protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere. With a population of around 60,000 people, Tobago is much smaller and more relaxed compared to Trinidad. The island features stunning natural attractions like the Buccoo Reef, one of the Caribbean’s most famous coral reefs, and the Nylon Pool, a shallow natural pool in the middle of the sea known for its crystal-clear water. Historically, Tobago was once a separate colony but was administratively joined with Trinidad in 1889. Today, Tobago maintains a level of self-governance through the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), which manages many local affairs. The island is also known for its vibrant culture and traditions, including the famous Buccoo Goat Races, where goats pull small carts in a lively and entertaining competition.
